there’s a world where we aren’t friends

where we never met

because i chose the wrong desk

and yes there are universal rights and wrongs

but the scales were tipped

for our cosmic click

there is a world a little bleaker

with a few more croissants because we didn't eat them

and i wasn’t there to share a bite

on our numerous coffee dates

where we would pass the mic

of kiss and tell

our latest developments of why we think we're going to hell

we hardly need a reason to get together

time with you is life’s ultimate treasure

but there is a world a few more people smiled a little less

the kids at camp didn’t have a counselor as a best friend

there’s a world where i’m responsible for a full squirrel brain

and we would be the only ones to blame

because there’s a world where we didn’t touch lunch boxes

and existential forces tied us with a bond

there’s a world where my deepest secrets go unsaid

where my confidence stayed in a shell

a world where i didn’t quite know that love came in the form of a green eyed girl

a world without you, i certainly wouldn’t want

twenty years is no easy feat

if you do it i'll do it,

because there’s no world that spins just right on its axis

without you holding my hand

squeezing it twice

no matter what happens

there is a world where we are best friends

and that is the world my soul chose

as means to make amends

for all the breaking we would do, the heartache and the loss

in this world i have you and you are healing a heart you haven’t done anything but love

see, mending is better with two

because you’ve got me, and i’ve got you

so in this world, that’s all that matters

adding candles and blowing them out together

in this world, i’ll find you in every other

and in this world i’ll love you forever
